MOMBASA, Kenya – Bandari Swimming Club, a powerhouse of aquatic excellence, once again proved why it is regarded as the home of champions. The club on 27th February, 2025 hosted a prestigious awards dinner in Mombasa, bringing together a distinguished lineup of swimmers, coaches, parents, fans, and partners to celebrate their latest triumph—clinching the overall title at the recently concluded Kenya Aquatics National Swimming Championship at Kasarani.
The evening was led by Head Coach Fakhry Mansoor, a revered figure in Kenyan swimming, whose leadership has propelled Bandari to national and international success. During the celebrations, Coach Mansoor confirmed that the club is gearing up for its next challenge—the much-anticipated Kenya National Junior Swimming Championship in Kisumu, where Bandari’s rising stars are expected to shine once again. The event was graced by Omari Omar, Chairperson Kenya Aquatics Technical Committee who promised to working closely with clubs in a bid to promote quality swimming training and development across the country.
Among the esteemed athletes was Rhidwan Abubakar Mohamed, a household name in Kenyan swimming, who made history by representing Kenya in the 400m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His journey from Bandari’s training grounds to the grand stage of the Olympics underscores the club’s dedication to nurturing world-class talent.
But Mohamed is not alone. Bandari Swimming Club has carved out a legacy of producing Olympians and elite swimmers who have represented Kenya on the world stage. Among them is Maria Brunlehner, a record-breaking sprinter who competed in the 50m freestyle at Paris 2024, setting a new national record of 25.82 seconds. Her dominance in the pool continues to inspire a new generation of young swimmers.
Other Olympians from Bandari include Hamdan Bayusuf, a backstroke specialist who has flown Kenya’s flag high in global competitions, and Danilo Rosafio, a formidable force in freestyle and butterfly events.
