Swimming officials from across the region are making a splash, as the Kiambu Aquatics Officiating Clinic prepares to welcome a record-breaking number of participants on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Zetech University. With a reputation for delivering top-notch training, the clinic has become a cornerstone of mid-season capacity-building for swimming officials, and this year’s edition promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

Leading the charge is the illustrious Coach Pastor William Malalo from Braeburn School. A titan in the East African swimming scene, Malalo brings an impressive resume, having attended multiple World Aquatics-sanctioned officiating clinics, including a renowned session in Malawi. As the head coach who steered Team Kenya to the Paris Olympics 2024, Malalo’s credentials and hands-on expertise make him one of the most sought-after facilitators in the sport.

The clinic aims to equip officials with essential skills in timekeeping, marshalling, and adjudicating key events such as starts, strokes, and finishes. The energy is palpable as officials eagerly anticipate the opportunity to learn from a mentor of Malalo’s caliber.

In an exclusive interview with Kenya Swimming TV, Kiambu Aquatics’ Technical Director, Nahason Otieno, shared his excitement:

“We have received an overwhelming number of registrations for this clinic. Kiambu Aquatics has become synonymous with professionalism and athlete-centered initiatives, which have earned us recognition even beyond Kenya’s borders. This clinic is a testament to our commitment to excellence.”

Otieno also highlighted the upcoming Kiambu Aquatics Invitational Swimming Championship, scheduled for January 25-26, 2025, at Regis Runda Academy. This championship will serve as a key qualifier for the Kenya National Swimming Championship in February and is a vital step toward the 10th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship.

“Our goal is to ensure that this region produces not only more officials but also a sizable number of elite swimmers for national and international competitions,” Otieno added.

Meanwhile, the Coast region is also diving into action with a Meet Manager and Team Manager Swimming Clinic set for January 18, 2025, at Khadija Secondary School in Mombasa. Organized by Kenya Aquatics, this clinic underscores the growing demand for robust swimming infrastructure and training across the country.

As Kiambu Aquatics continues to set the gold standard in swimming development, it’s clear that the sport is entering an exciting era of growth and excellence. With clinics like these fueling progress, the future of Kenyan swimming is as bright as a newly polished stopwatch.
